Amite, LA: Thomas Bickford, 30, of Ponchatoula gets 25 years for kidnapping child at FP Arena

AMITE–District Attorney Scott M. Perrilloux reports that Thomas Bickford, age 30, was sentenced to 25 years with the department of corrections after pleading no contest to aggravated kidnapping of a child.

This time will be served consecutively to the 10 year sentence he is currently serving on drug related charges.

According to the police report, on July 8, 2011, Amite Police Detective Allen Ordeneaux was working a security detail at the Florida Parishes Arena in Amite when he heard someone crying out for help.

The officer soon spotted the defendant, Thomas Bickford, of Bardwell Road, Ponchatoula, dragging a young child toward the exit gates.

When the detective told Bickford to release the child, the defendant claimed that he was the victim’s stepfather.

Bickford placed his arm across the child’s throat and continued to pull him away. With assistance from an arena employee, the officer was able to pull the child from Bickford.
