Organizers plan to go door-to-door in House Speaker Chuck Kleckley’s Lake Charles district seeking voter signatures to force a recall election because of his backing of Gov. Bobby Jindal’s proposed public education revamp.
“We are planning a day to do a walk through the entire House 36 district. …We have people who are going to walk with us coming from everywhere,” said Brenda Romero, recall chairwoman and a schoolteacher, on Monday.
Romero lives in Kleckley’s House District 36.
Romero is one of a group of Calcasieu teachers spearheading recall election drives against Kleckley and Jindal upset over efforts to change teacher tenure laws and provide subsidies for children in poor performing schools to go to private and parochial schools.
