A threatening Internet post sent Alexandria Senior High students to the football stadium Tuesday morning.
“School officials were made aware of a disturbing tweet (Tuesday) morning,” ASH Principal Duane Urbina said in a statement.
Urbina would not say what the tweet specifically said, only that it addressed the school threateningly.
School will resume as normal today with “additional safety precautions in place to ensure the safety of the students, faculty and staff.” Urbina said the police will continue to have a presence at the school.
Bill Morrison, assistant superintendent of administration for Rapides, said the school was evacuated to allow members of the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, Alexandria Police Department and Alexandria Fire Department to conduct a room-to-room search of the building.
Evacuation of the school’s 1,200 students began about 7:30 a.m., when the administration was notified of the threat. Authorities declared the building safe about 9:10 a.m., allowing students to return to class.
