Authorities say 66-year-old Hugh Clifton Kelley of Beaumont, Texas, was the only person in the aircraft when the crash happened Wednesday morning in a remote area near Crowley, Louisiana.
Authorities say that around noon the helicopter struck a guy-wire supporting the radio tower and crashed, killing the pilot.
The tower is owned by Acadiana Broadcasting Partners and transmits the signal for the station known around Lafayette as Big 102.1.

Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office: Helicopter crashes into radio tower killing pilot
The pilot of the helicopter that crashed into a radio tower early this afternoon has died. The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office says the pilot was the only person on board the craft. Officials say the helicopter is owned by a Texas company, but they declined to release immediately the name of the owner. Deputies also say several workers on the ground witnessed the crash, but none of them were injured.
