Rapides Parish School Board members continue to track money owed to the district by students and employees who have charged for meals.
At Tuesday’s meeting, member Julie McConathy requested an update from Erma Davis, head of the district’s Food and Nutrition Services.
Davis told board members that the district is owed $59,315.49 from student charges and $9,459.75 from employee charges.
Davis said a major problem is getting parents or guardians to return forms for free or reduced-price meals at the beginning of the year. Until a child is approved for free or reduced meals, the child may have to pay for meals. If the student has a balance, that balance is not forgiven just because a child is approved for free meals, said Davis.
