On June 25, 2013, parish resident Miranda Miley, 36, a resident of Highway 424, made a criminal complaint to the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office, claiming that she was being stalked by Cortland “Kory” Runfalo.
According to Riley’s complaint, she met Runfalo two weeks earlier at Union Square in Bogalusa where she had gone for a drink with a female friend. She alleges that Runfalo was attracted to her and made advances to her. She informed him that she was happily married and not interested.
Miley alleged that Runfalo somehow obtained her cellular phone number and address and pursued her for the next two weeks. The pursuit went from texting Miley wanting to be her friend, to threatening to kidnap her. She went on to state that she had observed Runfalo prowling around her residence and that she was fearful of him. Deputies encouraged Miley to seek a protective order against Runfalo and the complaint was referred to Sheriff’s Office detectives who began a priority investigation into Miley’s allegations.
As advised by deputies, Miley went to the Clerk of Court’s Office and filed necessary paperwork to obtain an order of protection. The order was signed by a District Judge. Meanwhile, detectives went to work attempting to identify Runfalo, but could find no evidence that he actually existed.
