RIVER ROUGE — A shipwreck that has held the public’s fascination for nearly 40 years will be remembered once again at a memorial service from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Belanger Park.The SS Edmund Fitzgerald was built at Great Lakes Engineering Works, a shipyard straddling River Rouge and Ecorse. It was bound for Zug Island, in River Rouge, when it disappeared in a storm in Lake Superior on the night of Nov. 10, 1975. All 29 crewmen perished.The memorial service in a heated tent in Belanger Park will feature speakers, photographs and other memorabilia about the ill-fated freighter.
