State removes student information from database

Louisiana’s student information has been withdrawn from a non-profit database after parents voiced privacy concerns, but a company spokesman said reinstating the information would be a “painless process” and “as simple as uploading data.”

Adam Gaber, spokesman for inBloom Inc., confirmed that Louisiana removed student data from the warehouse in April. That space remains available for Louisiana’s use.

“Louisiana has a software as a service (SAAS) contract with inBloom,” an emailed answer to The News-Star’s question regarding Louisiana’s current status with inBloom. “We are continuing discussions with Louisiana to determine how we move forward together.”

Board of Elementary and Secondary Education member Lottie Beebe said the ease of reinstatement concerns her because she said the initial upload was done without BESE’s approval.
