The Louisiana Department of Education has provided emails requested by The News-Star in a public records request dated Oct 3. The emails included in the request related to the phases and the development of the Louisiana Scholarship program which was implemented statewide beginning in May.

The News-Star took legal action to force the state Department of Education to comply with a public records request submitted by the paper on June 4.

An attorney for The News-Star filed a petition Aug. 30 arguing that the Department of Education is obligated to produce the public records requested by the paper.

The News-Star’s request for Department of Education employee emails about the process of

approving schools to participate in the state’s scholarship program was ignored and then denied, claiming the governor’s exemption of deliberative process.
