WALKER, La. —

The remains of a well-developed fetus cut from its mother’s womb are missing, and likely were cremated by a funeral home.

Officials with Louisiana State Police told WDSU that they have been asked to assist in the investigation “regarding the missing fetus” that was cut from a woman’s womb during an attack this week.

The Advocate newspaper is reporting that the fetal remains were cremated accidentally prior to a scheduled autopsy. They were being held at a funeral home, because Livingston Parish does not have a morgue.

Jeffrey Reynolds, 31, faces charges including feticide in connection with the attack on his wife.
