Opelousas, LA: ‘Man’s best friend’ suspected in shooting

Myson Durham, a 23-year-old Opelousas native, was hospitalized Tuesday afternoon for a gunshot wound to his foot.

The suspect?

According to Durham’s grandfather, Doc Durham, it was a dog.

“You don’t know who you can trust anymore,” Doc sighed. “I’d hope you could at least trust your dog.”

Myson Durham was being treated at Opelousas General Health Systems at press time, but, according to the elder Durham, the incident occurred on a fishing trip.

“(Myson) and his brother-in-law were out on the bayou with (the brother-in-law’s) dog,” Doc said. “My grandson was up front and when the dog moved to see him, it bumped the gun and it went off.”

The 12-gauge shotgun blast hit Myson’s right foot, taking a chunk off the bottom of his heel. Doc said the shot thankfully did not damage the foot more than it potentially could.
