ALEXANDRIA, La. – On Thursday morning, Sheriff William Earl Hilton called a press conference to release information regarding a 30-year-old homicide.

Hilton said that Rapides Parish sheriff’s deputies have cleared up another cold case. And this time, it’s one from almost three decades ago, and three people have been charged in the murder of Dan Triplett.
Deputies arrested John F. McNeal of Woodworth, Mark McNeal of Alexandria and Bobby Ray McNeal of Lena. All three have been charged with one count of first-degree murder and aggravated burglary, and investigators say the robbery appears to be the motive.

Tripplett’s granddaughter, Brenda Sanders, is the only family member still living in Central Louisiana.
“It’s bittersweet,” Sanders said in an interview. “Bitter, bittersweet. It’s bitter because it brings up a whole lot of memories. I’m reliving the way he died.”
On Aug. 9, 1982, a neighbor found Triplett in his home on Langston Road in Woodworth. Triplett’s hands and feet were bound. A pillow case was covering his head and tied around his neck, the sheriff said. Triplett also had suffered a beating to the head, Hilton said. Triplett died the next day at Huey P. Long Hospital in Pineville as a result of those injuries.
“His death was such a horrible death,” Sanders said.
