BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — If you own a home or any other type of property, odds are, there’s unclaimed money waiting for you.
More than $250 million is available through the state’s “citizens assessment” program.
It offers rebates and tax credits to anyone whose insurance rates went up after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Nearly $200 million has already gone back to the state’s general fund, because people didn’t claim money that was owed to them from 2006-2008.
But more than two-thirds of the cash in the system is still there.
