A soldier from Louisiana was one of the pilots on an Army helicopter that crashed in southern Afghanistan last week, killing all five people on board. Chief Warrant Officer Bryan J. Henderson, 27, was killed Monday (March 11), the Defense Department announced Saturday night.
The Defense Department said in a press release that Henderson was from Franklin, La., but news media in north Louisiana said he was from Fort Necessity in Franklin Parish. He was a graduate of Franklin Parish High School and the University of Louisiana at Monroe, according to news reports.
It was Henderson’s second deployment, according to the Army. He had been in the Army since 2007. His decorations include the Air Medal.
The military has not said what caused the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter to crash in Kandahar. The Defense Department said that “the incident is under investigation.”
