PFLUGERVILLE, TX: Teacher sues district, says yellow paint could have curbed his panic attacks

PFLUGERVILLE — A former Connally High School teacher who was fired in 2011 after a series of panic attacks, stuttered speech and skyrocketing stress led to his first ever negative performance review is suing the school district for not painting his classroom a soothing yellow, among other things.

Lieu Tran faced felony charges last year after he told an Austin police officer that he had thoughts of killing his supervisors at the school while suffering a mental breakdown. In the lawsuit, Tran blames the district’s refusal to provide his requested [accommodations] for his poor performance and the eventual loss of his job of five years, which caused him to have the meltdown. The lawsuit filed Feb. 19 claims the district failed to provide Tran [accommodations] in line with the Americans with Disabilities Act in a timely manner.

Chris Schulz, Tran’s attorney, said Tran’s criminal case provides a lot of context to his story.

“He has some mental disorders he works on everyday like everybody else who has those types of disorders,” Schulz said. “He’s a really nice guy, he’s just got a lot of issues.”

The school district did not immediately respond to the lawsuit.
