BEAUMONT – by Ashley Gaston – The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a case of neglected horses that makes even seasoned deputies cringe.
Horses left in filthy conditions for several months without food, hay or water.
Today they had to put down one of three horses because pain medicine was the only way to help the animal with a hoof that had broken in half because of neglect.
Deputy Don Metts says this is one sign of a horse someone has neglected… fungus on the skin that’s causing the hair to fall off.
“It makes me sick to my stomach because it’s so easy to keep a horse in good shape,” said Deputy Metts.
