Jerry Sonnier made his way to the Branch Fire Department on Thursday afternoon, looking for sandbags. He had to use a boat to get there. “The water just kept coming,” said Sonnier, who lives in Mire in Acadia Parish. “We should have got out of there last night, and we didn’t. The water just got so high, I had to get to the front of my road in a boat.”
