Probation officer fatally shoots 12-pound dog

Thursday afternoon, FOX 31 received the following statement from the the Georgia Department of Corrections:
On Oct. 7th, two Albany Probation Officers were conducting a field visit. During this time, an Albany Probation Officer was involved in an incident that required him to use use of force against an aggressive canine during a field visit. An incident report was filed and it was determined that the Probation Officer responded appropriately.
I encourage you all to call the Albany police department at
229-430-5260. Speak to the supervisor. He argues that the probation
officer (he doesn’t work for the police department) was in fear and the
shooting was justified. He says that it was not reckless, and therefore a
criminal offense, to discharge his weapon with civilians present. He
even tried to equate that fear with combat. All the while making
excuses as to why he would not proceed with charges against the officer.
If you or I did this we would be in jail, would have our guns
confiscated, and would have a felony on our record moving forward. The probation office number is 229-430-8461.
