Monkey on the lam: Primate briefly escapes at #Alexandria Zoo | #CenLa #Louisiana

M onkey business shut down the Alexandria Zoo for a few hours Friday.

A 20-pound Colobus monkey that got loose from its handler caused an evacuation and temporary closure of the zoo at about 10:30 a.m.

Zoo employees were moving two of six monkeys from their enclosure, which is scheduled to be remodeled, when one escaped, said David Gill, director of public works.

Gill said the animal pulled away from a zookeeper and ran through a crack in the door of the enclosure before climbing a tree. The monkey never left the zoo property.
