BATON ROUGE — Legislation is being planned to increase the salaries of Louisiana’s clerks of court that could mirror what parish assessors are seeking.
Those involved with the process said the proposed raise could be in the neighborhood of 4 percent staggered over a four-year period. A bill has not been filed yet.
The money for the increase in salaries would have to come from each clerk’s budget, not the state budget.
Terrebonne Parish Clerk of Court Theresa A. Robichaux said she is not in favor of asking the Legislature for that authority.
“As a first-term clerk, I couldn’t support it,” said Robichaux, referring to a recent association of state clerks vote she missed because of a death in her family. “But there are a number of officials out there who do deserve a raise.”
