A U.S. television news anchor left viewers cringing when she mistook Olympic gold medal-winning runner Mo Farah for an amateur athlete.
The British runner was being interviewed by LaTonya Norton on WDSU after winning a half-marathon in New Orleans, when she asked: ‘Haven’t you run before?’
Farah appeared a little stunned by the foolish question, and paused briefly before asking ‘sorry?’, as if he misheard the journalist.
But Norton, who was unaware of her gaffe, put her foot in her mouth again by repeating the question, before adding: ‘This isn’t your first time?’
The celebrated athlete, who is one of the most famous faces to come out of the Olympic Games in London last summer, then smiled as he replied: ‘No it’s not my first time.

A statement from WSDU read: ‘We regret our unfortunate phrasing of questions posed to Mr Mo Farah following his impressive victory in this past weekend’s Rock ‘n’ Roll half-marathon in New Orleans and for not acknowledging his status as an Olympic champion.
‘We express our sincere apology to Mr Farah and his many fans who may have been offended by our error. We hope that Mr Farah will have occasion to visit New Orleans again and that we may have the opportunity to apologise in person.’

Wow. “Haven’t you run before?” and “What does it take to train for a marathon like this?” and “The winner of the Rock and Roll marathon…”
Time to send this broadcaster back to the minor leagues…
