Just so you know, Pineville is a dry city. You will have to go outside Pineville city limits to buy alcohol.
A lot of people from out of state think the whole state of Louisiana is like Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Lake Charles. So it boggles many folks minds to learn there are actually dry cities in Louisiana.
There are incidents that are kind of discouraging regarding this – for instance – during certain Holidays there are events on both sides of the Red River in Pineville and Alexandria. There will be shuttles that will drive you over the bridge from once side to the other. People from out of town not knowing there is any difference between the two cities – ( because it clearly looks like one big event) – will come over with alcoholic drinks they bought at the event on the Alexandria side – I guess no one on the shuttle has the courtesy to tell them while they are riding over that they can’t bring the drink over to Pineville or didn’t notice the drink, but however it occurs – the visitor winds up getting detained or arrested by the Pineville police.
What a way to learn about our city on maybe your first visit.
It has come up many times – petitions to vote and allow alcohol sales in Pineville – but so far the city is stead fast on continuing to be dry.
It discourages some restaurants like Applebee’s and others – restaurants that typically have a bar or serve alcohol – from opening up in the city limits. There was a Mexican restaurant on Main Street in Pineville for a little while but has closed down – there is a Dollar General Store where it used to be located. I don’t know for sure why it closed down, but if it were me? I am going over to a Mexican restaurant in Alexandria so I can have a margarita.
So here I am in 2013 in a dry city. It drives people to want to drink when they are told they can’t buy it here.
