Although Louisiana ranks 38th nationally with a 4 percent sales tax, the state has one of the highest average sales tax rates when [combined with Local and State] tax[es], according [to] the Tax Foundation.
At 8.87 percent, the foundation reported Monday, Louisiana has the third-highest combined local and state sales tax rates in 2013. That’s nearly 9 cents on every $1 in sales, according to the foundation’s report, “State and Local Sales Tax Rates in 2013.”
