Parade Scammer Arrested
For those who had the opportunity to ride in the Mardi Gras parades across Lafayette, it was alike a dream come true. But for a select few families who were taken advantage of, it was more like a nightmare.
These families say they were victims of a con man who took their money and never came through with the guarantee that they would ride in the Independent Parade in Lafayette. The families say they paid Lawrence Richard also known as “Big Daddy” close to ten thousand dollars to ride on 10 floats in the parade.
But, instead of using the money to pay for parade registration and insurance fees for the Krewe of Nia, they say Richard just pocketed the money and the krewe watched the festivities from the sidelines. Krewe members are now upset because they say Richard not only stole money, he also stole the hopes of their children.
“Our kids cried from ages 3 through 12 we have kids that was in the in the parade through those ages they cried and everything asked questions mom why, why did this have to happen to us and everything and its upsetting” says Rilette Green.
