Deadbeat Winners Lose Big – DCFS Cashing in on Deadbeat Gamers

Winning big at the casino — could mean a big win for the state. Child support officials have a new way of making sure that parents pay their child support. The state Department of Children and Family Services has intercepted more than $800,000 from parents to cover their back child support payments. Here in the Ark-La-Tex — officials have seized more than $210,000 from casino winnings. Child support officials say — they’re giving the money back to kids and families.

B.J. Crawford says, “It’s not the child’s fault that you’re not taking care of your responsibility. So if you come here and you win money and you’re not paying your child support, I think you need to take care of your responsibility and give the child your money.” Crawford, like so many others in our area agree that intercepting casino winnings is a good move for kids who are owed support. “It gives back the opportunity to give back to your child, something you may not have been able to do then and you can do now,” said Lebo Jackson.
