A baseball player at Louisiana State University at Alexandria died Friday afternoon after collapsing at practice.
LSUA officals issued a statement at 5:59 p.m. confirming that Brandon Goyne, a redshirt sophomore outfielder from Elysian Fields, Texas, had died.
“All of us in the LSU Alexandria family are deeply saddened and heartbroken over the passing of our student-athlete, Brandon Goyne,” LSUA Chancellor David Manuel said in the statement. “We ask that you join us in sending our condolences, thoughts and prayers for Brandon’s family and his teammates.”
Goyne, 20, had collapsed earlier in the day at practice and had been taken to Rapides Regional Medical Center, athletics director Charlie Zeilman said.
