Winnsboro woman in alleged racial burn incident leaves hospital – Sharmeka Moffit

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) –

Louisiana State Police confirm that the woman who told police she had been attacked and set on fire was released from a Shreveport hospital on Wednesday.

Sharmeka Moffitt, who had been recovering at the Regional Burn Center at LSU Health, returned to her Winnsboro home.

But, says LSP spokesman Lt. Bill Davis, the case is still open and is likely to remain open until January, when the case file should be complete. State Police interviewed Moffitt on Thursday.

The burning case became of national interest back in October after Moffitt, 20, told authorities that three unidentified men wearing hoodies poured lighter fluid on her and used a lighter to set her ablaze. The flames left Moffitt with burns on more than 60% of her body.
