New Orleans police have arrested a 23-year-old man they say fired a gun into the air in the 100 block of Bourbon Street and hit the arm of a teenage girl standing on a hotel balcony early Sunday. Rashad Barnes, 23, of Metairie, was stopped in traffic about 2:15 a.m. when he stepped out of his car and placed a handgun on his vehicle’s roof, police said.
NOPD said boys ages 16 and 17 — who told NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune that they had come to town from Monroe to support their high school, Neville, during the Class 4A state championship football game in the Mercedez-Benz Superdome — both watched Barnes from the balcony of the Astor Crowne Plaza hotel. The 17-year-old boy then went down to the street and walked past Barnes, prompting Barnes to put the gun back in the car, police said.
