Michael Williams is Not Dead – Not allowed to vote.

Michael Williams, a Lafayette resident, went to vote at his precinct Tuesday, only to be denied.

“I went to vote. They told me, I couldn’t vote. They made some calls, checked my driver’s license and then they told me I was deceased.”

Williams said he has a similar problem in 2009, when he purchased a vehicle. At the time, he visited the Social Security office, and believed the problem was solved. During election day, however, the issue arose.

Williams went to the Lafayette Registrar of Voters, Wednesday. Charlene Meaux-Menard explained to Williams, that her office has documentation stating he is deceased.

“There is a Michael Anthony Williams, with the same birth and social security number, which is a deceased person who matches our voter files,” Meaux-Menard explained. Louisiana law requires deceased individuals to be removed from voter registry. The documentation showed that Williams date of death was January 1st, 2008.
