It used to be that in order to get labeled a “pinko commie” you would actually had to have done something commie-like. This could entail marching with the ACLU outside your kids’ graduation that was to feature an opening prayer or maybe joining New Orleans Councilwoman Dorothy Mae Taylor in helping bring down the private, all-white krewe of Comus.
That was then this is now. The words “Commie”, “traitor” and “socialist” can now be hurled at you for voting Libertarian … as in Gary Johnson for President.
Go ahead and try saying “Gary Johnson” in a crowded room of ABO Tea Partiers to see what I mean. ABO is of course the acronym for “Anyone But Obama” which MSNBC host Chris Matthews recently accused Southern white folks of swearing an oath to. I think Matthews is more correct than he is incorrect and this sets up a dangerous precedent for those who mistakenly label themselves as “conservatives.”
