New Orleans, LA: 27-year old man kills himself after SWAT standoff in Mid-City

A 27-year old man shot himself in the head early Sunday morning after a three hour standoff with the New Orleans SWAT team. The incident began when an officer attempted to pull over a vehicle after seeing it speeding on Banks Street in Mid-City.

The driver pulled into a driveway in the 400 block of S. Genois St., got out of the car, pushed the officer and attempted to run away. The officer caught the suspect and during the struggled tased him, but the man broke free, ran up the back stairs of what was apparently his house, and knocked several times before breaking in.
