Cesar Ruiz, 19, faces attempted first-degree murder charge

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand said Cesar Ruiz, 19, is charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder.

Deputies said Ruiz’s son, Lucas, was initially admitted to the pediatric unit of the Ochsner Hospital on Jefferson Highway on Oct. 16 with breathing difficulties.

Doctors told investigators the child was diagnosed with an unnamed illness and was undergoing treatment when he started having seizures. Detectives said the child was moved to the pediatric intensive care unit, where doctors discovered he had a blood alcohol content level of .289.
