Louisiana State officials say West Nile still a threat

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) –

Louisiana’s cooler weather has done little just yet to tamp down on West Nile numbers, as state officials on Friday confirmed 17 new cases and one death from the virus in the past week.

Saying West Nile is still a threat, state officials pointed to two new cases in Caddo Parish, one in Bossier and one in DeSoto among the 17 total new cases.

The most active year for West Nile cases in Louisiana was 2002, when the state experienced 328 cases and 24 deaths.

So far, there have been 338 cases and 13 deaths from the disease reported this year.
