Jefferson Parish: Harvey teenager booked with attempted murder

Harvey teenager was arrested and booked with attempted second-degree murder for allegedly opening fire at an acquaintance after asking for a ride. Kelford “Bookie” Francis Jr., 17, of 1621 Ester St., was booked with use of a firearm in connection with drug activity, according to Glen T. Boyd, spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting occurred about 9:15 p.m. on Oct. 16. The unidentified victim told investigators that Francis and another 17-year-old appeared at his home and asked for a ride to “Old Harvey,” a dead end of Brown Avenue in Harvey, a Sheriff’s Office incident report said.

The victim agreed to take the boys. He stopped in the 1000 block of Brown, and the unidentified teenager got out of the vehicle. However, Francis allegedly pulled out a black pistol, pointed at the back of the victim’s head and fired. But the victim spotted the gun and was able to duck, escaping harm, Boyd said.
