FEMA Assistance
The individual disaster assistance declaration currently covers residents in the following parishes: Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, St. John the Baptist, Lafourche, Livingston and Ascension. Funding may apply to housing and home repair and other disaster-related expenses. To apply, call (800) 621-FEMA or visit disasterassistance.gov.

Disaster Unemployment Assistance
Those living in parishes that qualify for FEMA individual assistance are eligible for disaster unemployment assistance as well. Applications must be filed with the Louisiana Workforce Commission by Oct. 2. Call (866) 783-5567 or access the forms online at laworks.net.

Disaster Food Stamps
Louisiana has applied for federal assistance through the Disaster Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program, formerly called Disaster Food Stamps. The program provides assistance to those not already qualified for SNAP benefits who are living in certain parishes. Approval has not yet been granted, but those seeking food assistance may pre-apply by calling (888) 524-3578.

Insurance Concerns
The Louisiana Department of Insurance can answer questions and take reports of concerns at (800) 259-5300. The Mississippi Insurance Department can be reached at (800) 562 2957.

Salvation Army
The Salvation Army is assisting those affected by Hurricane Isaac in a variety of ways, including “physical, spiritual and unique needs” of individuals. Their services and locations are posted at salvationarmyusa.org.

Second Harvest Food Bank
WDSU and the Second Harvest Food Bank are accepting donations right now to help those hit hardest by Hurricane Isaac. To make a contribution, logon at: http://www.no-hunger.org All donations will be put to use in the WDSU viewing area. Those needing assistance may call: (504)734-1322.

American Red Cross
More than 200 Red Cross emergency response vehicles, hundreds of volunteers and truckloads of relief supplies are circulating in more affected neighborhoods. Locations of distribution points and of shelters is evolving. For the latest in Louisiana, visit: arcno.org. In Mississippi, visit: mississippi-redcross.org To make a donation, call (800) RED-CROSS or text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

To report suspected price gouging, call the office of the Louisiana Attorney General at (800) 351-4889.
