Harahan Police officers who stopped a pick-up truck to check the window tinting discovered more than a pound of marijuana and $7,773 in cash inside of the vehicle, according to authorities. Larry Stewart, 38, of LaPlace, and his passenger, Hannah Babb, 20, were arrested and booked on drug-related charges, said Harahan Police Chief Mac Dickinson.
The officers spotted Stewart’s truck just after 1 a.m. Saturday on Hickory Avenue near Dock Street and suspected the vehicle’s tint job was darker than law allowed. They stopped the truck in the 2100 block of Hickory Avenue, the report said.
Before the officers could make it to the truck, Stewart popped out of the vehicle, the report said. He approached them and said, “I know my tint is too dark,” the arrest report said.
The officer asked Stewart to return to the vehicle, open his door and lower a window so they could obtain a tint reading. But the officers noticed the smell of marijuana wafting from the vehicle once Stewart opened the door, the arrest report said.
A search of the vehicle turned up just over 1 pound of marijuana packaged in a plastic bag inside of a paper bag on the truck’s backseat. Officers found the cash in the center console, the arrest report said.
