Driver arrested in St. Charles Parish June 9th crash that killed passenger

St. Charles Parish authorities have arrested a New Iberia man they say was driving impaired when he lost control of his vehicle on June 9, killing his passenger. Louis Langlinais III, 45, of 2517 Palmeto Drive in New Iberia, was booked Friday with vehicular homicide. He remained in the St. Charles Parish jail with bond set at $300,000.

Louis Langlinais III, 45, of New Iberia, was speeding down U.S. 90 westbound around Scott Lane when he lost control of his truck and hit a raised driveway, investigators said.

The vehicle spun and flipped several times before Langlinais, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the vehicle, police said.

He was transported to LSU Interim Public Hospital, where he [was] in critical condition.

A passenger, Crystal Hardy, 39 of Youngsville, who was wearing her seatbelt, died at the scene.
