I’m ashamed to admit I had never heard of Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl until Karen Harrington brought his situation to our attention. Captured in 2009, Sgt. Begdahl has been a prisoner of war for 3 long years. From what I understand, Bowe is being used as a bargaining chip by the Taliban. They are also using him for propaganda and recruiting purposes, in clear violation of international law.
There is a group that is trying to raise awareness of Bowe’s situation. They have a world awareness day planned for June 30, the anniversary of his capture:
The Bring Bowe Home WOD exists to spread awareness for Sergeant Bowe Robert Bergdahl,United States Army (dob 28 March 1986) of Hailey, Idaho. Sergeant Bergdahl was captured in Afghanistan on 30 June 2009 by a Taliban allied Afghan insurgent group called the Haqqani Network.
