Ten high school and college students will have the opportunity to work for the city of Alexandria this summer.
The Alexandria City Council on Tuesday approved an ordinance allowing the city to partner with the Rapides Business and Career Solutions Center to hire 10 summer student workers.
Assistant City Attorney Alaina Mire said the students will work in various departments throughout the city, such as the legal, planning, public works and utility departments. They will be paid $8 per hour and will work 32 hours per work.
The program will cost the city approximately $24,000 to employ the students for six to eight weeks, Mire said.
