Police use social media to fight crime

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) – West Monroe Major James Keys believes social media like Facebook has helped police stay connected to the community they serve and protect.

“They love to go in and see what’s happening,” said Keys.

With a simple click of a button, residents can see who police are looking for – and fight crimes that are happening in their neighborhood.

“We’ve solved several crimes just this year with by people looking and saying: I know that person,” said Keys. “Somebody that we didn’t know who they were. But they can look at it and say I know that person and they call in and the give us a name and the crime gets solved.”
