Hand grenades found at Shreveport site

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — Six hand grenades found at a Shreveport building on Friday have been turned over to military authorities.

Police and firefighters who were called to check on a man who had failed to show up for a lunch appointment found the grenades.

Fire Department spokesman Fred Sanders said because the grenades were military devices that local officials contacted nearby Barksdale Air Force Base for help. It remained unclear Friday night whether the grenades were live.

A man at the scene was taken to a hospital with what Sanders said was a bump on the head from a possible fall. Police said there was no indication that the man was the victim of a crime.
