Danziger Bridge cover-up suspect Gerard Dugue set for August retrial

The retrial of a former New Orleans police sergeant charged in a cover-up of the Danziger Bridge shootings has been postponed until August while an appellate court weighs his appeal. Court documents filed Tuesday show attorneys for Gerard Dugue, the last of the defendants to go to trial in the high-profile police misconduct case, have sought to bar his retrial, arguing that it would be a case of double jeopardy.

Dugue testified that he did not participate in a cover-up of the bridge shootings, while acknowledging that the trial last summer of five other officers in the case clearly showed that some officers acted illegally.
