Houma’s Deweyville Cemetery haunts the survivors whose loved ones are buried there.
Skeletal remains and pieces of broken caskets and headstones litter the ground. A grave where a row of veterans had been buried is empty.
Deweyville Cemetery Association members claim a local man was using a backhoe to dig up burial plots and selling them for $1,400 apiece.
That man is living in Houma but is a native of Dularge. He refuses to talk about the cemetery, and he isn’t being named in this story because he hasn’t been charged with a crime.
Association officials said he admitted to selling the burial sites and denies that what he did is illegal.
