Sen. Landrieu backs anti-Kony effort

WASHINGTON — Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., and some of her colleagues joined Thursday in the “Kony 2012” with the release of a new online video seeking action against Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony.

The effort led by Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., Landrieu and others is a response to the huge viral video success of the “Kony 2012” campaign that has received hundreds of millions of online views worldwide, mostly by young people.

The nearly 8-minute video was released ahead of Friday’s Kony 2012 global day of action and awareness

Calling Kony, who heads the Lord’s Resistance Army, “the world’s leading and most wanted war criminal,” Landrieu said he must be stopped after 25 years of terrorism in killing and mutilating innocent people and children.

“This is more than just capturing Joe Kony,” Landrieu said Thursday. “This is about telling the young people in America that your voices are heard.”
